Discover why the Town of Buchanan has become known as the “Town that glows with love at Christmas.” Celebrate the Town’s history as Buchanan’s Main Street is lined on Christmas Eve with hundreds of luminaries to herald the arrival of Christmas. Dozens of volunteers recreate this spectacular display by lining Main Street with luminaries made from plastic gallon jugs collected by area residents and students at Buchanan Elementary School. Volunteers place luminaries at 3pm and return to light them at 6pm so that they will burn until midnight. The public is encouraged to enjoy the luminary display by car, or, by foot along the sidewalks. Take time out of your busy schedule to discover this uniquely Buchanan tradition which memorializes the love of those who supported the Town following the flood of 1985 with donations of gallon containers of water. These containers made the very first Buchanan Luminaries in December of 1985. For additional information, or, to volunteer contact the Buchanan Downtown Revitalization Program at 540-254-1212.
